We are very lucky in Platanitos to have a a wonderful turtle rescue near us. When our friends came to visit the end of December we all went across the estuary and helped release about 200 baby turtles. It is also a wonderful adventure to watch these little turtles make their way back to the sea. It is also sad to know that very few will make it the eight years it will take to make their way back to this same beach. But without the help of the turtle camp these creatures would disappear from the sea. It was fun to see the small children so excited about releasing the turtle that they had named. I am sorry my grandchildren had not been able to do this on their trip. I hope on the next visit they will be able to go to the camp to see the great job they do there. If you are ever in the area it is a "must see".
