Food at the Villa

We are very lucky at Casa Lagarto to have some wonderful help.  Tere (photo:left) has been with us before the main villa was completed.  She comes in three days a week when we are not there to open up the rooms, fluff the beds, and mop.  When we are there (or our guests) she comes in six days a week.  She makes a wonderful breakfast and lunch for us in addition to cleaning the villa up from the night before.  She knows some english and studies at the local high school a couple of times a week.  She is a very good cook and is always willing to try new things.  I have taught her several dishes and she is pleased with all of them.  In the photo she and Veronica (her Auntie) are seasoning Molkajete bowls for a special mexican soup.  It is served in the bowls hot.  The bowls are made of lava from a near by volcano . They are seasoned by grinding rice and or salt into the porous rock. It is one of my favorite dishes in Mexico.
